Bio

Kae Britton is a Michigan-based multidisciplinary artist. They were born in Grand Rapids, MI with both an identical twin and fraternal triplet, with whom they would switch places with growing up. Britton and their siblings spent their early childhood in Tennessee playing in the woods and attending their local church. Their family moved back to Michigan after their father received a job offer, spending their late childhood and teenage years in Muskegon, MI. While Britton was always motivated as an artist, their middle school art teacher introduced them to the work of Frida Kahlo, where they discovered painting self portraits to explore and heal traumatic experiences, leading them to draw and paint their own image as the subject of their art.

During their early high school years, their parents went through a lengthy and vindictive divorce, causing a chaotic and emotional home life, which they drew on for much inpsiration for their high school portfolio. They exhibited extensively throughout high school in local student showcases and art shows, helping them to win awards and scholarships based on artistic-merit. Britton graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2018 with their Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art, emphasis in Illustration.

Since graduating, Britton has been establishing a career as a multidsicplinary artist, working in the fields of fine art, illustration, and drag. They have exhibited in galleries across Michigan, including the Muskegon Museum of Art, Grand Valley State University, Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center, and Fountain Street Church for ArtPrize 2022. Most recently, they were invitied to contribute five self-portraits to Galerie Natalie Seroussi in Paris, France for the group exhibition, "Drag Clown Affairs."
